Conference “The Sign Beneath Nature” – Iași

 

On April 9, 2025, at Alexandru Ioan Cuza University in Iași, in the “Mihai Eminescu” Aula Magna, the conference “The Sign of Nature” took place, an event dedicated to exploring environmental issues, sustainability, and ecological adaptation, organized by the Fraternity Foundation, at the initiative and with the support of the Grand National Lodge of Romania Association.

The conference brought together specialists from complementary fields—scientific research, circular economy, environmental engineering, biology, and marine sciences—offering participants a broad perspective on current challenges related to the relationship between humans, technology, and nature.

The event was opened by Mr. Cătălin Tohăneanu, President of the Grand National Lodge of Romania, who emphasized the importance of collective responsibility towards the environment and the need for honest dialogue between science, society, and ethical values in a global context marked by rapid change.

During the conference, Mr. Ionuț Georgescu, CEO of FEPRA Romania, presented the role of technology and artificial intelligence as essential factors in the development of the green economy of the future, as well as an updated vision of the circular economy in 2025. His speech highlighted the link between innovation, efficiency, and sustainability.

Another major topic was the global water issue, addressed by Associate Professor Nicolae Marcoie, PhD, and Professor Dan Pădure from the Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iași. The presentation highlighted the geopolitical tensions and technical challenges generated by access to water resources, emphasizing the importance of responsible and sustainable management. The marine science perspective was provided by Ms. Adela Dumitrașcu, oceanographer and scientific researcher, who spoke about research in polar regions, ecosystem resilience, and the increasingly clear signals being sent by these sensitive areas of the planet.

The conference also included a presentation by Prof. Ștefan Zamfirescu, PhD, from the Faculty of Biology at Alexandru Ioan Cuza University in Iași, dedicated to biodiversity and ecosystem protection, emphasizing the need for a balance between development and conservation.

Finally, Mr. Andrei Furtună proposed an exercise in awareness and responsibility, inviting participants to reflect on their individual and collective roles in relation to nature and the environment in which we live.

The event ended with a question and answer session, which facilitated direct dialogue between guests and the audience, reinforcing the idea that sustainable solutions are built through knowledge, cooperation, and commitment.
